I’m going to go off a little on my normally geeky posts and do something a little more mainstream. It’s also a little too honest and personal for my liking, as it’s been a struggle for me for a couple years now, but I think being upfront and open about it will help me to be more accountable.
I, Jessica, am overweight. I’m about 80 lbs from where I was when I got married. It’s definitely not something I am proud of or happy about. While I think that there are some factors that went into me gaining so much weight and not being in good health, I can really only blame myself.
Now don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of things I love about myself. I have grown to love how geeky I am and being a fangirl is one of the greatest things in the world! But my weight has been something I have been ashamed of. I used to love going clothes shopping, but it’s become more of a depressing errand that I have to do when it becomes hard to find something that fits me in a way I like. Part of why I love sewing my own clothes is because I can fit it to my body type, as well as it makes me more proud to wear.
Sometime in June, my brother Chris and his wife Shandi texted me and our other family members about creating a little family competition to get us more active and healthy. They also proposed we get some sort of fitness bracelet that can help us track our progress.
We were first going to get the Fitbit, a popular fitness band that tracks your steps as well as your sleep.
