I promised in a previous post that I would review the sneak peak that I saw for Guardians of the Galaxy. I ended up going alone, as my plus one ended up canceling, and Sean had work. I walked into the theater and went up to the ticket desk, not sure where I was supposed to go. Luckily I went to the right place, as I needed to exchange my e-ticket for the actual ticket. Since it was at the Megaplex and they have assigned seating, I was able to choose my seat. I was alone, so I got to pick a seat in the middle up towards the top; perfect for the IMAX theater that the showing was in. They had to check my ID to make sure I was who I said I was, probably to prevent people from putting in random names in order to get more tickets, as the showing was free. I got my ticket, bought a kids combo, and I headed to the theater.
When I got in, they had an advertisement for the film on the screen, which I shared a picture with in my last post. We had to take a picture and share it to social media in order to get the free poster. I don’t know what they did for the younger kids who were there, as they didn’t have those resources, but I do hope they gave them posters.
Anyways, I sat between a family with young kids, and a couple of girls. I ate my popcorn in silence and plastered the movie advertisement on all forms of social media that I had in order to pass the time.
Finally the sneak peak started.
It started out with the line up that has been seen in the trailers. The part where Peter Quill(aka Star Lord), was flipping them off was not censored as it was in the trailer. They then started shuffling them down the hall in their handcuffs. Peter was talking to Rocket and Groot, making a comment about how Rocket is a raccoon(which Rocket didn’t know what that was) and how Groot only says “I am Groot.” Like in the trailer, Peter saw someone playing with this music player and he confronted him about how it was his song, resulting in him getting shocked while the song “hooked on a feeling” continued playing in the background.
The scene cut to him getting sprayed with some orange stuff, which didn’t get washed off, making me feel icky and wanting to jump into the screen and wash it off my self. They cut to a commons, lunch room type area at the prison where the gang got a lot of dirty looks(and I could still see the orange stuff in Peter’s hair). Rocket led a discussion on how they needed to break out of there. He said he needed this wristband from a guard, another prisoner’s metal leg, and then a battery from the guard tower. As he was talking about how the battery was the last thing they should get, since once they had it they had to act fast, the audience could see Groot in the background walking towards the tower and retrieving the battery, unbeknownst to his small partner. Alarms blared and they had to work fast to get the other items. Gamora went for the wristband and Peter went for the leg. Rocket went to Groot, who was doing a great job at deflecting the gunshots that were sent his way, but Rocket wanted his own gun. Queue Drax who took out some guards and tossed a gun to Rocket. Seeing a raccoon with a gun is both terrifying and amazing. They all convened in the tower. While Rocket worked on the control panel, finding out that the metal leg wasn’t actually needed, the tower was attacked by some bigger guns.
Just when we thought that they were done for, Rocket turned off the artificial gravity and the top of the tower came off. Rocket had the destroyer robots attach to the bottom of their new ship and used them as thrusters. They flew the ship through some doors and ended up in a hallway which Rocket locked them in, then the scene ended.
I know I missed a lot of things, because it went by pretty fast. All this happened in only 17 minutes! It was a great preview though, and got me really excited for it to come out in less than a month. Sean and I don’t normally go to see things in 3D let alone even on IMAX, but we will definitely be seeing this one in IMAX 3D. After the preview they showed a new extended trailer, which made me even more excited!
I think the movie looks great effects wise. Sometimes it was a little strange with Groot and Rocket, but not because of the animation, mostly just because they are a walking tree and raccoon. It’s still a little hard to wrap my mind around, even after reading some of the comics. I love the music that is included and am tempted to purchase the soundtrack.
After the presentation, the little boy next to me said “that was awesome” loudly, then everyone clapped. It was a perfect ending if I do say so myself. I exited the theater and showed my picture proof that I shared the image onto my Instagram and received my awesome poster.
