It’s common knowledge around the Gamer community that the standard fuel for Gamers is Doritos and Mountain Dew. One of our favorite ways to eat Doritos is getting those amazing Doritos Locos Tacos from Taco Bell!
But sometimes we would rather stay home and play our games instead of head out into the world to get some of that glorious food.
So how can you make Doritos Locos Tacos at home? Well, seeing as you can’t make those awesome Doritos taco shells at home (at least that I know of) I present to you Deconstructed Doritos Locos Tacos!
Yes, I know it’s basically Taco Salad but it sounds fancier to say Deconstructed Doritos Locos Tacos. Also it’s a lot of fun to say it really fast too!
This has become one of our favorite meals to make at home and it’s seriously one of the easiest things to make too! The hardest part is probably cooking the ground beef, but even then that’s pretty simple to do! I mean if Sean can do it, I’m sure anyone can! (sorry to throw you under the bus babe, but you know you’re not really the best at cooking.)
To illustrate how easy it is to make, we made this minute long video! Granted, this video has been sped up for ease of watching, but it at least lets you see that it really is THAT easy!
Doesn’t that look delicious? I know I’m really hungry right now just watching that video! Sean and I would eat this a few times a week if we could! And even Marvel is a fan! Probably because it sometimes seems like she lives off of Doritos. She’s a regular gamer in the making! (We don’t give her Mountain Dew though, she’s too young for that).
I know you’re dying to know how to make Deconstructed Doritos Locos Tacos for yourself, to do so you’ll need:
- 1 lb ground beef (or turkey to be a bit healthier)
- 1 package of your favorite brand of taco seasoning
- Shredded lettuce
- Shredded cheese
- Olives (optional but I think it makes them better)
- Sour Cream
- Hot sauce (our favorite is Cholula)
- Doritos (Either nacho cheese or cool ranch flavor)
- Additional toppings that you desire
- Mountain Dew (to drink on the side of course, I do NOT recommend putting it over the food!)
To start, you’ll want to cook the ground beef in a frying pan, making sure to drain the fat to throw away once it’s solidified.
Next, mix the taco seasoning by following the instructions on the package.
Once your taco seasoned ground beef is done, grab a plate and cover it with Doritos (however much you want!). I like to give them a little bit of a “crunch” with my hands to break up some of the larger pieces since I eat mine with a fork. Next put some of the ground beef on top of the chips, giving it a good coverage to maximize the chips to meat ratio. Then sprinkle some shredded lettuce and shredded cheese over the top.
Add some olives, sour cream, salsa, hot sauce, and/or whatever toppings you would like! Feel free to omit any that you’re not a fan of.
Pour yourself a glass of Mountain Dew (or drink straight from the bottle or can, no judgment here!) and enjoy!
Yummm…Tell me in the comments, are you Team Cool Ranch or Team Nacho Cheese? I’m Team Nacho Cheese!
