7 Awesome Things About LEGOLAND California

Are you planning a family vacation for spring break or summer? Southern California is such a great destination for families since it has so much to do. In particular I wanted to suggest LEGOLAND in Carlsbad. It’s perfect for families and offers attractions ideal for kids ages 2-12!

Family vacations are always better when you save money so don’t forget to book with Get Away Today. They have discount hotel and ticket rates, plus a love of all things travel. You can use our promo code TwoGeeks to save an extra $10 off your 2-night or longer Southern California vacation package, too. There really isn’t a reason not to book a 2017 trip to LEGOLAND now! Before you go, there are some things you have to know about. While the whole LEGOLAND park is awesome, there are 7 things you NEED to do when you visit:

1: Minifigure Trading. A lot of people know about trading pins at Disneyland, but not many realize that LEGOLAND offers something similar; LEGO minifigure trading. The employees, also known as Model Citizens, of LEGOLAND carry LEGO minifigures on their brick badges. The little figures are always fun for kids to trade – especially when they find specialty-themed ones like Disney or Star Wars characters! Don’t worry if you don’t have LEGO minifigures to bring from home – the park has several stores where you can buy and even customize your own minifigures. You can bring your own LEGO minifigures from home or purchase some at the park to trade.

2: Miniland, USA. This may just be the most amazing part of LEGOLAND, I’m always amazed by what can be made from LEGO bricks! Here you’ll find miniature replicas of landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Taj Mahal and Central Park. Your family will feel like giants as you walk through the LEGO-sized cities. Or, if you prefer a lakeside view, you can take the Coast Cruise for even better looks at the Eiffel Tower and Mt. Rushmore. If the ride doesn’t leave you in awe, the fact that Miniland, USA is composed of more than 32 million LEGO bricks will!

One part of particular interest to me of Miniland, USA is the section dedicated to Star Wars! It showcases iconic scenes from the movie and has a Death Star Model Display that is over eight feet wide. You can even pose with life-size LEGO models of Darth Vader and Chewbacca here. LEGOLAND is adding even more to the Star Wars section this year, starting with a Star Wars: The Force Awakens Display. The new addition will be over 16 feet long and is set to debut in March of this year!

3: LEGO NINJAGO World. The LEGO NINJAGO World opened just last year and is already one of the most popular lands at the park. Your little ones will be able to train just like the ninjas, including climbing a rock wall and testing their reflexes with Ninja Jay. Don’t miss LEGO NINJAGO The Ride either! You’ll be able to control the elements with your own hands as you fight to defeat the Ninja’s arch-nemesis Great Devourer. It’s the first ride of its kind and already a favorite among LEGOLAND enthusiasts.

4: SEA LIFE Aquarium. You’ll need a Hopper ticket to visit the SEA LIFE Aquarium, but it is definitely worth it. Your kids will love the closer look at marine life and the LEGO structures found in the tanks are a fun touch! Your family will be able to touch starfish, watch sting rays be fed and even meet strange animals up close on certain days. The SEA LIFE Aquarium is fun for everyone and a great way to make your LEGOLAND trip educational.

5: LEGOLAND Water Park. Have any fish in your family? You won’t want to miss the LEGOLAND Water Park then. It has multiple slides and pools that will easily keep your little fish busy all day. On top of the slides and wave pool, you can choose from building your own raft for the lazy river or building a boat to race through CHIMA scenes. LEGOLAND is also adding a new area, named Surfer’s Bay, to their water park this summer. Your kids will be able to race down the waterslide before splashing around on the spray ground filled with new LEGO models.

6: Granny’s Apple Fries. It’s hard to read anything about LEGOLAND without mention of the infamous treat. Probably because these little bits of fried apples, dipped in cinnamon sugar and served with whipped cream, are delicious! You’ll find them in the back of the park, so don’t forget to stop by before heading out for the day. If your sweet tooth still isn’t satisfied, we also recommend the Magic Swirl Ice Cream Cone. You can find it near the front entrance in flavors like cotton candy and raspberry!

7: LEGOLAND Hotel. Last, but not least, is the park’s on-site hotel. The LEGOLAND Hotel is nothing like your usual hotel – you can tell that as soon as you see the huge LEGOs adorning it. Your entire family will be amazed when you stay here! Not only are the rooms LEGO themed, but the hallways and elevators are too. Speaking of elevators, be prepared for a dance party when you get on! A disco ball will lower as “Everything is Awesome” or an 80s song starts to play. Don’t be surprised if your kids don’t want to get off the elevator ever! But who am I kidding, I wouldn’t want to get off the elevator either!

On top of the décor, you’ll be right outside of the park and even have early access to LEGOLAND. The fun starts even before you enter the park, though. Once you’re checked in, you can take part in the hotel’s Welcome Treasure Hunt. You’ll have to search for clues throughout the LEGOLAND hotel to find the combination for the treasure chest in your room. Your kids will love the hunt as much as they love the LEGO surprise inside the treasure chest!
